Positive Affirmations For Anxiety

Updated: Feb 1

Feelings of anxiety can hold us back from living up to our full potential. It's easy to get down on ourselves when we don't meet our own standards, or feel like we aren't doing enough. But no matter where we are at in life, it is important to show ourselves compassion and grace. The way we talk to ourselves matters, and makes a huge impact on our wellbeing!

That's the idea of affirmations, they are short phrases we can repeat to ourselves to shift our mindset from negative to positive. Affirmations are free and easy to practice anywhere, anytime, and any place. They are one of the most accessible tools to help us cope with anxiety and stress. Affirmations help motivate action, reduce anxiety, persevere through difficult times, and increase self-confidence and overall well-being.

Try using affirmations to challenge negative self-talk. Instead of saying, "I'm so stupid", tell yourself instead, "I can learn from my mistakes." The way we speak to ourselves determines our self-esteem and our perception of the world around us. The words we tell ourselves make a powerful, long lasting affect on our lives. Pay attention to the things you say to yourself, and begin to slowly make a change with some of the affirmations below.

I am doing my best, and that is enough.

I trust myself.

I can overcome anything.

I can achieve what I set out to do.

I am capable.

I love myself for who I am.

I forgive myself for my mistakes.

I am in charge of my life.

I can make a difference in the world.

I can choose to see the good.

Once you’ve decided on your affirmations, try to make a regular habit of it. For example, make it part of your morning or nightly routine. Repeat it as many times as you need. Practicing affirmations regularly is key to their effectiveness, especially if you’re trying to change thinking patterns or behaviors. To help you stick with the practice, you can write your affirmations on notecards and place them around your home, keep them in your phone's notes app so they’re accessible, and set a reminder to repeat your affirmations at the same time each day. You are worth it!
